Finding and Using Coupons
By Lisa Hallman So you may think coupons are not worth it? Or you can’t find the coupons you need, this will help you understand what you can do to increase your savings. I’ve learned to save 50% even 90% off my grocery bill by just knowing, and matching coupons to sales. By understanding how they work, and the limitations. YOU CAN USE COUPONS WHEN USING A RAIN CHECK Just because you have a rain check for an item doesn’t mean you can’t use a coupon. You can often get rain checks for items that have run out on a really good store sale. Extend the savings of product when they have run out and request a rain check. Using a coupon with a rain check fine. COMPLIMENT OR COMPLAIN TO GET GREAT SAVINGS When you contact a company because you really liked or hated a product they will often ask you for your name and address and send you free coupons. Sometimes even if your calling to inquire on a product is good enough for them to warrent giving FPC (free product coupons) or just regular cents off coupons. USE COUPONS WHEN PRICE MATCHING At a store that does price matching (i.e. Zellers) bring in a flyer to increase your savings to show them the price at another store. There is no reason you can’t use coupons when doing this. The reason most people price match is because they prefer to do their shopping at a less busy store, or because they collect reward points. GET ON A COUPON TRAIN If you want to get the coupons you really want, start swapping at coupon groups or get on a coupon train. Coupon trains are coupon filled envelopes that pass from one person to another by mail, and upon receiving it remove coupons they want and add coupons they don’t need. Then send it on to the next person. Try Trading Post Coupons or Canadian Coupon Club on Yahoo! Groups. I highly recommend them, and it’s where I participate alot. They are also free to join, which is a big bonus. WHERE TO FIND COUPONS The best places to look are in the stores in all isles near the product for which the savings are for. You will also get inserts in with your local paper’s flyers, community and big name newspapers. You can also find great savings in newspapers in the Sunday edition. You can also find them online on the company website, where you can often print them out or request them. If you are going to trade coupons, collect all coupons so you have something to trade.
